In 2022 alone, 349 million people faced severe forms of hunger and 49 million people in 49 countries were on the brink of famine. Barron Segar will share about the unprecedented hunger resulting from conflict, climate shocks and economic pressures and what the World Food Programme is doing to alleviate food insecurity.

The world produces enough food to feed everyone on the planet, but nearly 1/3 of all food produced globally each year is lost or wasted. Dan Glickman will discuss supply chain issues and the challenges food insecurity presents.

In South Carolina, one in 10 people face hunger. In the Lowcountry alone, the food insecurity rate is at 11%. Nick Osborne will give an overview of the state of food insecurity in South Carolina and what the Lowcountry Food Bank is doing to decrease food insecurity in coastal South Carolina by 25% by 2025. Shannon Maynard will share how the Congressional Hunger Center is taking a grassroots approach to ending hunger by training more than 1,000 new leaders in the movement.
